Cubert Restoration

CUBERT WORKSHOPS

ART AND CRAFT AT ST CUBERT CHURCH.

COME AND JOIN ONE OR MORE OF THESE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS WHICH ENGAGE WITH THE CHURCH BUILDING, AND TEACH SOME NEW SKILLS.

As part of the Heritage Lottery funding that we received for the restoration of St Cubert Church, we are offering a series of workshops which will explore the building and also offer the chance to experiment with different kinds of art and craft activity.

Sunday May 6th 2-5pm Low-relief sculpture:  textures, marks and designs scored into a clay ‘master’ that is then filled with plaster of Paris to make a low relief panel/tile

Monday May 7th 10-1pm Tactile Detectives: focussing on the tactile senses to explore the space, textures and shapes in the building and using this information to design an embossed foil board.

Saturday May 12th 10-1pm Explore and Draw: drawing and mixed media to create images based on the church building and it’s various carvings and images.

The above three workshops are being run by Wendy Daws, an artist from Kent who has wide experience working in this way with visitors to public places, especially churches and cathedrals.

Saturday May 29th 10-1pm Stone Carving: using insulation blocks to make relief/sculptural pieces. Ages 12 and over

This will be run by Tony

Saturday June 9th 10-4pm Stained Glass: an introduction to the ancient skill of stained glass making. Templates and all materials provided. Ages 16 and over. Please bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee provided.

This will be run by Nadia Miller, a stained glass artist from St Agnes.

ALL THE WORKSHOPS TAKE PLACE IN THE CHURCH AND ARE FREE OF CHARGE, AND ALL MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.  BOOKING IS NECESSARY AS NUMBERS ARE LIMITED TO 10 PEOPLE, EXCEPT FOR THE TACTILE DETECTIVES WORKSHOP WHICH HAS UNLIMITED ACCESS.

Selected pieces from the workshops will be used, with permission, to put together a sensory ‘handling box’ which can be taken out to local Care Homes and Memory Cafes to enable people to experience the church building who otherwise would find access very difficult.
